Sheriff Warns of Ice Storm Scams
The current freezing rain and ice accumulations across the state are causing massive tree debris problems for many property owners and communities. Once the storm system exits Missouri, contractors, and private businesses may start contacting citizens and communities offering their services for debris removal.
“Local Officials and citizens need to be cautious, and only work with reputable debris removal contractors. In the past, some contractors claimed to be “FEMA/SEMA certified.” Neither FEMA nor SEMA endorse or recommend any private business,” said Ronald M Reynolds, State Emergency Management Director.
“If you are approached by anyone offering debris removal services, be sure to ask for references,” said Sheriff Richard Anderson.
If you feel you have been victimized, you should contact your local law enforcement officials or the Missouri’s Fraud Hotline at 800-392-8222.
