Husband Attempts Hit-for-Hire on Wife
A Kansas City man being held on an ex parte order violation in the Platte County Detention Center has been charged in a conspiracy to hire a hitman to break his wife’s jaw and ribs and burn her parents’ house down.
Warren G. Shurtz, 52, is alleged to have approached another prisoner at the county jail with the idea, who in turn notified authorities. An undercover officer from the Platte County Sheriff’s Department met with Shurtz and explained that he had been referred to him by the other prisoner.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Shurtz met with the deputy after posting bond for the ex parte violation at a commercial area near Barry Road and I-29.
At that meeting Shurtz is said to have paid the deputy $1,000 to assault his wife and even provided him with a map of where to find her during her work day and the specifics of the vehicle she drove.
Shurtz was arrested at the scene of the meeting and charged with conspiracy to commit assault in the 1st degree and is being held in the Platte County Detention Center on $250,000 cash-only bond.
Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd said his office filed charges against Shurtz on February 16.
Shurtz faces up to 15 years in prison for the conspiracy.
