Parkville Woman Fatally Injured

Parkville native Kimberly Norton, 40, died tragically last Thursday afternoon after being struck by a sport utility vehicle.

Authorities said that Norton probably lost control of her vehicle on the slick roads during the snow storm and slid off the road and into a concrete barrier on Interstate 29, just north of 64th street in Platte County. When she tried to cross the southbound interstate after leaving her car, she was struck by an oncoming Dodge Durango driven by a 32-year-old KCK woman. The accident led to a multi-vehicle pileup that snarled traffic for about an hour. The accident took place around 1 p.m.

Several witnesses to the crash were said to have tried to help her as she lay on the highway embankment and covered her with blankets and coats. The Missouri Highway Patrol, Kansas City Police, Platte Woods Police and the Platte County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the scene.

Norton was pronounced dead at the scene by Jackson County medical examiners.
