Hutsler to run for mayor
Tom Hutsler filed to run for mayor late Tuesday afternoon, minutes before the filing deadline.
Hutsler told the Luminary he was running to “combat waste” at City Hall, criticizing the size of the local government’s payroll and even the physical size of the building, which he said was too large for a city the size of Parkville.
“In 20 years we still won’t need that much space,” Hutsler said.
Hutsler has not fared well in past elections. Hutsler lost a bitterly contested race in Ward 1 to Deborah Butcher in 2005, losing by only 16 votes. In the 2007 rematch, Butcher handily demolished Hutsler at the ballot box, where he garnered only 18 votes to her 78. Hutsler did not campaign for the spot and had tried to remove his name from the ballot in that race, but was unable to do so in time.
Hutsler will run against former interim Parkville Mayor and current alderman Gerry Richardson.
