Tragic Accident Takes Life of Park Hill South Senior


A tragic weather related car accident Wednesday night ended in the death of a Park Hill South studentKelsey Ryan, 18, was killed while attempting to merge onto the southbound lane of I-20 from Hwy. 92. Ryan apparently lost control of the car as it began to spin out and she was hit by a tractor-trailer. The truck overturned into the northbound lanes, but the driver escaped with minor injuries.

In a statement, the Park Hill South school district said they would offering counseling to students and staff. Schools were closed on Thursday due to the weather.

“The Park Hill School District is grieving today with the students and staff at Park Hill South High School for the loss of senior Kelsey Ryan, who died last night in a tragic car accident on I-29. Miss Ryan was a quiet, kind student who was an active member of the school’s yearbook staff,” the statement read.

Ryan’s visitation will be 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 20 at Rollins Funeral Home, 1105 Branch Street in Platte City. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 21 at Rollins Funeral Home.
